December 27, 2024

Investing in a used car in Sharjah is a cost-effective and financially prudent choice. However, handling the documentation and paperwork can be intimidating due to the number of documents that must be submitted to get a used car transferred to your name. Much like in other parts of the UAE, in Sharjah too you must ensure all the documents are in order for a smooth and legally binding transaction. We attempt to make the process easier with our comprehensive guide that will help you gather together the paperwork required to purchase a used car in Sharjah.

Document compilation and transfer process

Get the necessary documents ready

For a successful pre-owned car transfer in Sharjah, you need to first gather together the required documents that you will have to submit when applying for transferring ownership of a used car. Before submitting the documents, ensure you consult with the relevant authorities regarding the document copies that must be submitted.

Seller’s Documentation

Ensure the seller provides all necessary documents:

  • Original registration card (Mulkiya) of the car that confirms its registration status.
  • Original passport with residence visa of the present owner
  • Emirates ID of the car’s current owner
  • Service History and Maintenance Records: These documents can offer insight into the car’s upkeep.
  • Original insurance documents for the car are mandatory
  • Original bill of sale

Buyer’s Documentation

As a buyer, you need to have the following documents ready:

  • Your original Emirates ID
  • Your original passport accompanied by your residence visa
  • Original driving license to prove you are legally permitted to drive in the UAE.
  • Two passport-sized photographs

No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Bank

If the car is financed, the seller needs to provide a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the bank. This is a confirmation from the bank stating that it has no objection to transferring the car ownership.

Sale Agreement

Draft a sale agreement with the present owner/seller that includes:

  • The car’s make, model, and year
  • VIN and registration number
  • Agreed sale price
  • Date of sale
  • The seller’s and the purchaser’s signatures

This document is a formal agreement of the sale terms and conditions.

The process of transferring ownership of a used car in Sharjah can be done from the comfort of your home due to the facility of online transfer from the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) online platform

Offline transfers can also be done at a Tasjeel center. This is a center approved by the government for car testing and registration. Both buyer and seller must be present with the relevant documents. The process involves
